So many religions & cultures have stories about beings & nefarious forces that aren't bound by the physics of this world. About a decade before The Entity, was The Exorcist that started to scare people in December 1973.

Then in 1979 was The Amityville Horror, which for many wasn't as scary as The Exorcist.
